HANS OP DE BEECK etc artist in residence 2011
The Belgian artist Hans Op de Beeck (b. 1969) works in a variety of media, seeking to re-examine and re-purpose traditional art historical notions such as the panorama, the landscape, and the German-Romantic notions of melancholy and the sublime. Op de Beeck achieves a balancing act between the different artistic disciplines and makes competent use of strategies for orchestrating architecture, stage sets, films, design and the fine arts.
In 2011 Hans Op de Beeck was asked by etc to embrace, for the first time, the craft of printmaking during an artist-in-residency in Zurich.
STAGED LANDSCAPE, the four-panel lithograph in the form of an inverted diptych, is the stunning result of the collaboration between the artist and the master printer Thomi Wolfensberger.
